Gun owners and non-gun owners alike agree that permitless carry is a bad idea.
Permitless carry legislation is part of the NRA’s broader agenda to weaken and repeal important gun safety measures, allowing more guns in public and undermining public safety. Gov. Ron DeSantis and Republicans in the Florida House want to loosen our already weak gun laws. They are part of the toxic gun culture that includes government officials who pose with their weapons in holiday photos and promote the NRA’s “guns everywhere” agenda.
If more guns made us safe, we’d be the safest country in the world. Instead, our country loses more than 100 lives each day to gun violence. Some recent studies show that states with permitless carry legislation are seeing increased violent gun crimes.
Carrying a gun in public is a huge responsibility. Most Americans support concealed carry permitting systems that provide firearm safety training and ensure that only responsible gun owners can carry concealed guns in public, but permitless carry could allow dangerous people, including violent criminals, to carry guns in public.
We need common sense solutions to end the gun violence crisis. Not weak laws that promote the NRA’s guns everywhere agenda and make us less safe.
